Bamboos

Strictly speaking, bamboos are woody perennial evergreen members of the grass family Poaceae and are easily identified by their hollow stems and and nodular growth.  There are approximately 500 to 1000 varieties of bamboo and they commonly grow to over 100ft, some of which can grow at the incredible rate of around a metre a day under the correct conditions.

There are many cultures in the world that rely totally on bamboo due to the fact it is so versatile. For hundreds of years if has been used amongst many other things, food, animal fodder, hunting, fishing, papermaking, building material, medicine, weapons and creative arts.
